Optimum Announces Latest Funding of Classroom Projects Through its Partnership with DonorsChoose
To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Optimum is allocating funds towards STEM-related projects throughout school districts on Long Island
As part of Optimum’s continued partnership with national education nonprofit DonorsChoose, the company is proud to announce that funding from its $1 million commitment made last year is continuing to support classroom projects across its 21-state service area, with additional funding efforts taking place across five regions in the Optimum footprint.
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, held during the first full week of May, Optimum is matching all STEM-related classroom projects on Long Island, New York up to $250,000, celebrating the educators that are going above and beyond to provide meaningful STEM learning experiences in their classrooms. The funded projects will enable access to essential tools, technology, and experiences that support student education, growth, and success.
“Optimum is proud to celebrate our Long Island public school teachers who are bringing learning to life in meaningful ways,” said Jen Ostrager, Senior Vice President of Community Affairs at Optimum. “For this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week, we are thrilled to support STEM projects that are so important in inspiring the next generation of innovators and continuing Optimum’s mission to supporting the communities we serve.”
For more than three years since Optimum’s partnership with DonorsChoose began in 2020, the company has funded more than 9,000 projects in nearly 5,000 schools with a specific focus on STEM-based projects. This recent allocation on Long Island will support the company’s mission to empower innovators and creators.
To further Optimum’s mission and contribute to the quality of students’ learning environment, Optimum has also allocated $10,000 each to four school communities, providing teachers and students with the tools and technologies they need to succeed and learn. The funding supported projects in the following locations:
- Bryan, Texas: Kemp-Carver Elementary received the full $10,000 in funding, which not only helps support teachers as they encourage more students to take part in STEM-related projects but goes towards building an outdoor classroom to spread the joy of learning.
- Wood County, West Virginia: A total of 22 DonorsChoose projects across Wood County Schools in West Virginia were funded that were related to STEM, reading and music. The schools include Parkersburg South High School, Van Devender Middle School, Franklin Elementary School, Jackson Middle School, and more.
- Alexandria, Louisiana: At Acadian Elementary School, $10,000 in funding went towards supporting 10 teachers in need of art supplies, classroom books, whiteboards, headphones, notebooks, and more, helping to create a more interactive learning experience for the students.
- Tyler, Texas: Four schools and one specialized program in the Tyler Independent School District received funding including Caldwell Arts Academy, Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School, Moore M.S.T. Magnet School, Early College High School, and Wayne D. Boshears Center for Exceptional Programs.
