Optimum Announces the Winners of its 2024 Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest
Optimum’s long-running essay contest recognizes and celebrates the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of generations of Hispanic Americans across the country
Optimum, together with co-sponsor Univision Foundation, is proud to announce the 2024 winners of its annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated each year from September 15 – October 15, Optimum invited students across the company’s 21-state footprint to share in 500 words or less a person, cultural experience, celebration or tradition that has helped them connect to Hispanic culture and explain what it means to them.
The student essay contest ran from Sunday, September 15 to Thursday, October 31 and boasted a total of four Grand Prize scholarships of $3,000. This year’s winners are:
- Camila A. from Elwood John H. Glenn High School in Huntington, NY
- Catie E. from Tyler Early College High School in Tyler, TX
- Agustina V. from Brooklawn Middle School in Parsippany, NJ
- Nataly N. from Batesville Junior High School Charter in Batesville, AR
Honorable Mention prizes have also been awarded to a dozen finalists in both the high school and middle school categories. Additionally, Optimum and Univision Foundation recognized the educators who encouraged their students to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by submitting an essay. Special gifts were awarded to educators who sponsored the highest number of essay submissions from their students. To view the full list of finalists, visit www.Optimum.com/hhm.
“We are honored to witness the remarkable creativity and heartfelt stories shared by students across our footprint through our Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest,” said Jen Ostrager, Senior Vice President of Community Affairs at Optimum. “Our long-running contest, which continues to receive more student submissions year after year, not only celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Hispanic Americans but also fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of their significant contributions to our communities. Optimum is proud to support and uplift these voices, and we look forward to celebrating with the winners and educators during our upcoming recognition events.”
To continue celebrating the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced our country and to recognize all winners and runners-up, Optimum and Univision Foundation will host a live virtual celebration event, moderated by News 12’s Elly Morillo, on Tuesday, December 10.
